The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is an organization of some 6,000 motion picture professionals.  It is best known for sponsoring the Academy Awards (or Oscars) which are held annually to honor outstanding achievement in the film industry.

The Academy Awards have been held annually in Hollywood since 1929.  They were first presented at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.  The show is now held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is based in Beverly Hills California but operates the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study in Hollywood.  The center can be found on Vine Street.
